Luke’s Mitzvah Project
For as long as we can remember, Luke has had a deep passion for helping others — especially those without access to a warm meal. What started as a simple question — “Why don’t we make extra and give it to someone who needs it?” — quickly turned into a family tradition, and eventually, Luke’s personal mission.
Years ago in New York City, Luke began cooking meals for the homeless at a local church, where he learned the impact of not just feeding someone, but seeing them — acknowledging their humanity with kindness and care. When our family later spent time in Toronto, Luke continued his efforts by preparing and delivering sandwiches to Ve’ahavta, an incredible organization dedicated to supporting unhoused individuals across the city.
Now, in honor of his Bar Mitzvah, Luke is choosing to dedicate his Mitzvah Project to the cause that has been closest to his heart: feeding the hungry and inspiring others to do the same.
We hope his story encourages others — especially our Canadian friends and family — to consider supporting Ve’ahavta in Toronto or a local food program in your community. Sometimes, something as small as a sandwich can change someone’s day.
